FBCN
TRAINING
What do we suggest?
FNOB Training shares the knowledge, skills, values and experiences of sailing with
the experiences of sailing from FNOB trainers.
In the Training area, we combine online programmes, resources and activities, with
face-to-face experiences at the FNOB and the Base, as well as in schools.
Initiation into
competition sailing
At FNOB we promote the dissemination of content for all levels of knowledge. We have introductory courses and workshops, training aimed at sailors and amateurs who discover and learn about different topics related to competitive sailing.
We organize all kinds of open and participative sessions, and we count on our team of experts "FNOB Masters" who bring us closer to the values, knowledge, skills and emotions that we experience in sailing regattas.

We support educational development
From the FBCN we support and accompany schools - at the ESO stage - that develop synthesis work linked to the sea and sea sports, bringing teachers together: the sector, professionals and entities for a better organisation of all teaching and learning activities and so that students can apply the basic skills worked on.
We also support students in 4th ESO and Baccalaureate who choose to do a transversal research project linked to ocean sailing.
In the university field, we support Bachelor's Degree Final Projects, Master's Degree Final Projects and Doctorates.
Ocean Campus
The Ocean Campus is a platform for open courses based on the scientific, humanistic and technological disciplines that are applied and developed in the Barcelona World Race.
This initiative is part of the collaboration agreement between the FNOB and the University of Barcelona to collaborate in the dissemination of knowledge and the educational potential associated with the Barcelona World Race and other regattas.
Professional training
The FBCN implements multiple programmes and activities for students of vocational schools, with the aim of being a tool for the improvement of their learning. Below we detail some of them:
Project with l'Institut de Nàutica de Barcelona
PORT INNOVA PROJECTS
It promotes innovative culture in companies and in educational centres, generating benefits on both sides. On the one hand, vocational training centres establish direct contact with innovative companies which, in addition, allows them to give visibility to their students by stimulating their professional skills. The creation of projects is based on real business challenges, which brings students closer to the real world of work and also improves the training in innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship of the teaching staff. The methodology is based on the development of projects by vocational training students in response to the challenges posed by the Port's participating companies. The most important aspect is the process and the key element is innovation. The programme is promoted by the Port of Barcelona, with the support of INDUCT, the BCN Vocational Training Foundation and the Barcelona Education Consortium.

An unprecedented double initiative
The Ocean Campus is a pioneering experience in the world of ocean sailing. For the FBCN it is a natural extension of the regatta's Educational Programme, which has been a benchmark in the transmission of the educational potential of ocean sailing in schools. The FBCN is taking another step forward in disseminating this knowledge at university and professional level, or simply making it available to all sailing, sport, science and technology enthusiasts.
Per a la Universitat de Barcelona també es tracta d’una iniciativa nova; ja que, encara que està treballant en diferents projectes, els del Barcelona World Race Ocean Campus representen els primers MOOC llançats per la institució.
The content is developed jointly by professors from the University of Barcelona and the Barcelona World Race's educational and editorial department. Also taking part are lecturers from specialised institutions, such as the Hospital Quirón Teknon and the CSIC Institute of Marine Sciences, as well as leading specialists in each discipline.
WORKSHOP
Nautical rope work (Level I - Beginners)
Dirigit a tot tipus of sailors: regata and creuer d’altura o coster.
The workshop will allow us to recognise the materials, to know the less common basic knots and their practical explanation, as well as to know how to make a good gauze in different types of ropes and we will learn how to sew, repair and make use of the tools, which will help us to minimise and solve problems that arise at sea.
Objectives
To know the different materials and construction of ropes.
Know how to do maintenance and work with basic tools.
Learn how to make loops, and textile carabiners.
Making repairs to ropes.
WORKSHOP
Diesel engine maintenance workshop
The aim of this new workshop is for participants to acquire the necessary knowledge to take care of the basic maintenance of their boat's engine and keep it in the best possible condition. On a boat, the engine is essential for good navigation and essential for correct manoeuvring. A boat with a clean engine, greased and with clean filters is less likely to fail.
The Workshop will be held, in collaboration with the Barcelona Nautical Institute, at the FNOB's Oceanic Base facilities. It lasts 14 hours and will be given by Toni Cases, an expert sailor with more than 20 years dedicated to teaching sailing. He has led technical teams in the IMOCA class in the Barcelona World Race and the Vendée Globe. He is a Yacht Surveyor from Falmouth University.

WORKSHOP
Energy on Board
Dirigit a tot tipus of sailors: regata and creuer d’altura o coster.
Recreational boating is becoming more and more energy-dependent. The enormous growth and development of electrical and electronic equipment available for recreational boating in recent decades has allowed for an ease of manoeuvring and a level of comfort on board that we have never seen before. Unfortunately, breakdowns in electrical and electronic systems and equipment are also one of the most common headaches of modern boating.
The sea is a very aggressive environment for electricity, the entire installation must be perfectly designed and the overall balance of the entire electrical system is of the utmost importance: it is no use having impeccable connections if the alternator is not capable of charging an oversized battery park or if the batteries have to be constantly charged due to an electrical consumption that exceeds their capacity.
Objectiu
- Understand the operation of the main elements of the ship's electrical system, be able to carry out basic preventive maintenance, diagnose and even repair breakdowns.
- Be able to assess and understand possible modifications, also being aware that electricity can be dangerous.
WORKSHOP
Meteorology and Navigation (Level I - Beginners)
Dirigit a tot tipus of sailors: regata and creuer d’altura o coster.
Introductory course in meteorology applied to navigation and notions of routage. Facilitates better use in higher courses/workshops.
Contents
- Basic weather forecasting tools: surface analysis maps. Basic synoptic meteorology: depressions and anticyclones.
- Numerical models for weather and wave forecasting. Parameters of interest for navigation. Displays (Windy).
- Navigation and routing software. Establishing a navigation plan. Data analysis.
- Case studies
WORKSHOP
Crew member of our training boats in regattas
A unique opportunity to participate and learn in an offshore race - over 100 miles - on board our IMOCA, together with a professional crew that will guarantee everyone's safety. An experienced skipper-with a round the world regatta and five Transat races-will explain the ins and outs of tactics, weather and manoeuvres on board in a true Formula 1 of ocean sailing.
